Careers in Denturism
Denturists specialize in the field of removable oral prostheses. Manual dexterity, attention to detail, a strong desire to serve the public, and an aptitude for health studies and anatomy are a must. Denturists must be licensed by their provincial regulatory body (Board).
After completing a requisite denture technology course at an accredited school of denturism in Canada, graduates must then complete a one- to two-year internship under the direct supervision of a licensed Denturist. Provided all requirements of internship are met, candidates may then take the provincial examination (held in three stages each fall). The examinations are conducted under the supervision of the Admissions Committee. Successful candidates are then licensed by the Board, and may begin practice.
Most Denturists in Manitoba are sole proprietors; however, some share clinics with other Denturists. There are 60 Denturists in Manitoba.
